Nitschke.; Lenape Park: 450-acre Union County wildlife reserve and park on the Rahway River Parkway. The county lists it in Cranford, Kenilworth, Springfield, Union and Westfield. Harding Elementary School (426 Boulevard), David Brearley Middle School (grades 6–8) and David Brearley High School (grades 9–12); the middle and high schools share the campus at 401 Monroe Avenue. A two-story addition finished by September 2025 moved sixth grade into the Brearley building, and the middle and high schools became separate schools that month. Winfield Township students attend Brearley High School under a sending/receiving relationship. On November 2, 1999, the district was approved as one of New Jersey's first ten districts in the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program. St. Theresa School, founded in 1955, is a Roman Catholic school of the Archdiocese of Newark for preschool through grade 8.

History

In the late 1890s the New Orange Industrial Association bought farmland in Cranford and Union and developed the area as New Orange. Because that name was confused with The Oranges in Essex County, the borough took the name Kenilworth when it was incorporated from parts of Cranford and Union Township on May 13, 1907. The name came from the Kenilworth Club, a local literary society named for Sir Walter Scott's 1821 novel. Much later, the former Schering-Plough campus in Kenilworth became Merck & Co.'s global headquarters around 2015. In 2020 Merck announced it would move its headquarters to Rahway by the end of 2023, and the company is now based in Rahway.
